Cockpit Service
The traditional idea of a simple “headset service” has changed dramatically with the introduction of fully integrated front ends. Modern bikes place far greater demands on maintenance, making a full headset and cockpit service essential for long‑term performance. In the past, non‑integrated setups typically needed nothing more than a quick clean and re‑grease of the bearings. Today’s integrated systems, however, feature hidden cables, tighter tolerances, and enclosed upper assemblies that trap significantly more sweat and moisture—especially for riders who sweat heavily.
Modern Cockpits
- Moisture Moisture often drains straight into the headset area, collecting around the upper bearing and hardware. This accelerates corrosion, breaks down grease, and shortens bearing life. With internal cable routing, even more components are exposed to potential damage, including compression rings, split spacers, and hydraulic hoses.
- Procedure Because of these factors, proper servicing now requires a far more thorough approach. The entire cockpit must be removed, all interfaces cleaned, cable routing inspected, corrosion checked, and every component re‑greased according to manufacturer specifications. Skipping this level of care can lead to seized bearings, damaged steerer tubes, and expensive replacements—sometimes in surprisingly short timeframes.
- Protection Our Cockpit Service covers a complete inspection of all components for wear, damage, corrosion, and seizing. We deep‑clean and fully dry all parts to remove old grease and corrosion, then re‑pack the bearings with the correct grease, including hydrophobic options to improve water resistance and prevent seizing. Headset preload is set precisely to eliminate play without over‑tightening, and every fastener is torqued to the correct specification.
